<i style="color: #660000;">(papier Kraft + MC) </i></br></br>
<br><br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2g6WFsvxT43ms92ZhQlQURF9hS392_8POvXh1jY-ipmF3O63ABPvxniiLwenSvc6P277v34bp6Cn9dfgV-HwWxzgwaEnt270Vj5pmKYlO56l-3lVnWp2Sc3JkFvo1knR1kYPqeZJcC2_4/s1600/20171105_102645.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2g6WFsvxT43ms92ZhQlQURF9hS392_8POvXh1jY-ipmF3O63ABPvxniiLwenSvc6P277v34bp6Cn9dfgV-HwWxzgwaEnt270Vj5pmKYlO56l-3lVnWp2Sc3JkFvo1knR1kYPqeZJcC2_4/s1600/20171105_102645.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1502" data-original-height="1600" /></a></div></br>
<br><br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB9hw-yb4MVf_-Lp0ZLjIZ3GDCYd94caGBPJOMoc7M4LO-fJwC20OdfS7iN3fKurKM28715iOA6Mfn5FCbvcuBQUFATZBsjf3FTw7g1mNTZ9HMQwYbaN9sFOGYXYfg9I97_bJVJhVsjCkT/s1600/20171105_102344.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB9hw-yb4MVf_-Lp0ZLjIZ3GDCYd94caGBPJOMoc7M4LO-fJwC20OdfS7iN3fKurKM28715iOA6Mfn5FCbvcuBQUFATZBsjf3FTw7g1mNTZ9HMQwYbaN9sFOGYXYfg9I97_bJVJhVsjCkT/s1600/20171105_102344.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1506" data-original-height="1600" /></a></div></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0PWl3SE3kIx7vD1WcnWjULdXYslr9x3YFBxsms5v1WGx2ybPKcR3LJeIg_Hrnt58XF0rmlQ78MkW2MGU37ttvmMOO_F6FGVVl4yVBDkN38nkVYMb1ebiq8599XXXQ9NdFZez8AnrJj4eL/s1600/20180102_211927.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0PWl3SE3kIx7vD1WcnWjULdXYslr9x3YFBxsms5v1WGx2ybPKcR3LJeIg_Hrnt58XF0rmlQ78MkW2MGU37ttvmMOO_F6FGVVl4yVBDkN38nkVYMb1ebiq8599XXXQ9NdFZez8AnrJj4eL/s1600/20180102_211927.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a></div></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdhJbosB5yeNF3jPj4F0XI4ydeOSxqrGu7LKInfRChTaN6uLlpaSATziBp2_HFx3lGcbYlJJaerMov_kJ6AwgPKPqFnf_qFOiS32YWyYNZclNYp0_CLCUOhVj7R7Ry0nqRExQpX2LqSHlO/s1600/20180102_212117.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdhJbosB5yeNF3jPj4F0XI4ydeOSxqrGu7LKInfRChTaN6uLlpaSATziBp2_HFx3lGcbYlJJaerMov_kJ6AwgPKPqFnf_qFOiS32YWyYNZclNYp0_CLCUOhVj7R7Ry0nqRExQpX2LqSHlO/s1600/20180102_212117.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a>
</div></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUUka8edT-2afbdiwqXvPxvxmWck-IICotonBYKSQMvOB-QBK9Qy44OG9ss_tGnAiYerpz5Jm5PhRHplTZNqRDBu6WHDCM110iS2yJKdR1ulH_I3djW98xfSF1ox2jvJ5Nzs-62_BuzG72/s1600/20180204_203015.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUUka8edT-2afbdiwqXvPxvxmWck-IICotonBYKSQMvOB-QBK9Qy44OG9ss_tGnAiYerpz5Jm5PhRHplTZNqRDBu6WHDCM110iS2yJKdR1ulH_I3djW98xfSF1ox2jvJ5Nzs-62_BuzG72/s1600/20180204_203015.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a>
</div></br>
<br> <br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuAuZ4-y59vUG_Kl9d09de6sw-6NO2HEZAaflFd9gK8Gvv_SOTsyQUFP5sTLUALjBgP4up0IYrZwdmzQvm9cdQAsn6pIsx0leYRg1gF04Dlu7O3MTa4JuqSnMwKRX7_3WJLsp5Sh_1PcFC/s1600/20180204_203240.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuAuZ4-y59vUG_Kl9d09de6sw-6NO2HEZAaflFd9gK8Gvv_SOTsyQUFP5sTLUALjBgP4up0IYrZwdmzQvm9cdQAsn6pIsx0leYRg1gF04Dlu7O3MTa4JuqSnMwKRX7_3WJLsp5Sh_1PcFC/s1600/20180204_203240.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a>
</div></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIJCI_LXwA1D3y1yFp9NcJHW-jBsixZpYNahkOvPgGgd4JhmuRh1eY0Km1WnGZXIy9DK-0WxBSyrlXNML_bPslAdIckRl729sJz7K6yomODco61OkA0AvsX4VJDtcmmxASmCspzdHh-xnM/s1600/20180218_152214.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIJCI_LXwA1D3y1yFp9NcJHW-jBsixZpYNahkOvPgGgd4JhmuRh1eY0Km1WnGZXIy9DK-0WxBSyrlXNML_bPslAdIckRl729sJz7K6yomODco61OkA0AvsX4VJDtcmmxASmCspzdHh-xnM/s1600/20180218_152214.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a>
</div></br>
<br><br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV8WirxXjIVrw7lojzvHMMqQKChYMeiDx_0jS5eXIv-GyUSa4e-VI59HjgV12_FY5rag8lDseb5U-M-oaq7hWa5iHRkTzqRkgv6XuDQdWZTHo_EI0LN8wut8Duc5iCF201WvLdYD-E4Cu9/s1600/20180218_152004.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjV8WirxXjIVrw7lojzvHMMqQKChYMeiDx_0jS5eXIv-GyUSa4e-VI59HjgV12_FY5rag8lDseb5U-M-oaq7hWa5iHRkTzqRkgv6XuDQdWZTHo_EI0LN8wut8Duc5iCF201WvLdYD-E4Cu9/s1600/20180218_152004.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a>
</div></br>

<i style="color: #660000;">(Kraft paper) </i>
<br>
Crumpling with a vengeance... it's a handful. I owe the expression to Todd Lenz, coined in a comment concerning this first model here. Let me tell you a few things about the impact this had on these paper scultpures.
<br><br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2g6WFsvxT43ms92ZhQlQURF9hS392_8POvXh1jY-ipmF3O63ABPvxniiLwenSvc6P277v34bp6Cn9dfgV-HwWxzgwaEnt270Vj5pmKYlO56l-3lVnWp2Sc3JkFvo1knR1kYPqeZJcC2_4/s1600/20171105_102645.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi2g6WFsvxT43ms92ZhQlQURF9hS392_8POvXh1jY-ipmF3O63ABPvxniiLwenSvc6P277v34bp6Cn9dfgV-HwWxzgwaEnt270Vj5pmKYlO56l-3lVnWp2Sc3JkFvo1knR1kYPqeZJcC2_4/s1600/20171105_102645.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1502" data-original-height="1600" /></a></div></br>
To name something is quite often a way of releasing it into existence in its own right, which is pretty much what happened here. What took me by surprise though is the fact that this is not only valid for things which are named after the fact, but can also hold true for things to come, as part of their conjuring process is at least influenced by such a name. I should have known.
<br><br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB9hw-yb4MVf_-Lp0ZLjIZ3GDCYd94caGBPJOMoc7M4LO-fJwC20OdfS7iN3fKurKM28715iOA6Mfn5FCbvcuBQUFATZBsjf3FTw7g1mNTZ9HMQwYbaN9sFOGYXYfg9I97_bJVJhVsjCkT/s1600/20171105_102344.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjB9hw-yb4MVf_-Lp0ZLjIZ3GDCYd94caGBPJOMoc7M4LO-fJwC20OdfS7iN3fKurKM28715iOA6Mfn5FCbvcuBQUFATZBsjf3FTw7g1mNTZ9HMQwYbaN9sFOGYXYfg9I97_bJVJhVsjCkT/s1600/20171105_102344.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1506" data-original-height="1600" /></a></div></br>
I had it on my mind to fold this type of model for quite a while, since an encounter with <a href="https://instagram.com/victorcoeurjolyartist">Victor Cœurjoly</a> and <a href="https://instagram.com/joao_charrua">Joao Charrua</a> actually. The idea took its time though. After first hints of its birth during the discovery and initial exploration of crumpling with Joao under the guidance of Victor, I kept stumbling upon lack of practice and, more importantly perhaps, technique. Vincent Floderer was kind enough to provide further insights during and after his workshops, certainly not to say I've reached perfection, but in sufficient quantity to know in which directions I could find the room for me to develop more models.
</br>
And to develop and reinvent gachepapier, again and again a goal. Bear with me for a short passage on the couch (hey, "bear", not "bare", it's going to be fine), but this is not merely an image to me. Identifying and naming this part of me which has the urge to be a paper folding artist may have the same impact as naming a model, finished or not. Words and names do have this power to emancipate that and those which they define.
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0PWl3SE3kIx7vD1WcnWjULdXYslr9x3YFBxsms5v1WGx2ybPKcR3LJeIg_Hrnt58XF0rmlQ78MkW2MGU37ttvmMOO_F6FGVVl4yVBDkN38nkVYMb1ebiq8599XXXQ9NdFZez8AnrJj4eL/s1600/20180102_211927.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0PWl3SE3kIx7vD1WcnWjULdXYslr9x3YFBxsms5v1WGx2ybPKcR3LJeIg_Hrnt58XF0rmlQ78MkW2MGU37ttvmMOO_F6FGVVl4yVBDkN38nkVYMb1ebiq8599XXXQ9NdFZez8AnrJj4eL/s1600/20180102_211927.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a></div></br>
The crumpling technique allows one to extract a seemingly arbitrary number of thin points with a lot more ease than the usual ways of folding do. This second model is a bit of an „exercice de style“ which shows it...
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdhJbosB5yeNF3jPj4F0XI4ydeOSxqrGu7LKInfRChTaN6uLlpaSATziBp2_HFx3lGcbYlJJaerMov_kJ6AwgPKPqFnf_qFOiS32YWyYNZclNYp0_CLCUOhVj7R7Ry0nqRExQpX2LqSHlO/s1600/20180102_212117.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjdhJbosB5yeNF3jPj4F0XI4ydeOSxqrGu7LKInfRChTaN6uLlpaSATziBp2_HFx3lGcbYlJJaerMov_kJ6AwgPKPqFnf_qFOiS32YWyYNZclNYp0_CLCUOhVj7R7Ry0nqRExQpX2LqSHlO/s1600/20180102_212117.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a>
</div></br>
Hopefully it will be apreciated that this character has a prime number of fingers (perhaps by someone near Madrid... ;) )
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUUka8edT-2afbdiwqXvPxvxmWck-IICotonBYKSQMvOB-QBK9Qy44OG9ss_tGnAiYerpz5Jm5PhRHplTZNqRDBu6WHDCM110iS2yJKdR1ulH_I3djW98xfSF1ox2jvJ5Nzs-62_BuzG72/s1600/20180204_203015.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUUka8edT-2afbdiwqXvPxvxmWck-IICotonBYKSQMvOB-QBK9Qy44OG9ss_tGnAiYerpz5Jm5PhRHplTZNqRDBu6WHDCM110iS2yJKdR1ulH_I3djW98xfSF1ox2jvJ5Nzs-62_BuzG72/s1600/20180204_203015.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a>
</div></br>
This third piece in the serie is in and of itself a good representation of how I normally proceed when inventing a somewhat more complex model, this is no coincidence.
</br>
Starting off with a rather well defined idea for one part of the model, here the top, I can start folding knowing quite exactly which proportions these first parts will have...
</br>
From there, things start getting more complicated. I don't compute everything, because I'm a bit lazy, because it's not fun for me, but mostly because I'm usually not satisfied with the result. And so I have to proceed with good old improvisation, which I usually get to spell d, e, s, p, e, r, a, t, i, o, n. It tends to be a rough moment, during which I am wondering how to get out of that hole I just might rip into that sheet of paper. Having been folding for a good while now I am getting used to this and it's less likely to turn me into a nervous wreck, but I still spend a lot of time to find the graphic solution and the technique which will satisfy me. And so I usually cut up things into bits and pieces and simply glue everything into place, it works wonders.
<br> <br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuAuZ4-y59vUG_Kl9d09de6sw-6NO2HEZAaflFd9gK8Gvv_SOTsyQUFP5sTLUALjBgP4up0IYrZwdmzQvm9cdQAsn6pIsx0leYRg1gF04Dlu7O3MTa4JuqSnMwKRX7_3WJLsp5Sh_1PcFC/s1600/20180204_203240.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuAuZ4-y59vUG_Kl9d09de6sw-6NO2HEZAaflFd9gK8Gvv_SOTsyQUFP5sTLUALjBgP4up0IYrZwdmzQvm9cdQAsn6pIsx0leYRg1gF04Dlu7O3MTa4JuqSnMwKRX7_3WJLsp5Sh_1PcFC/s1600/20180204_203240.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a>
</div></br>
Nah, just kidding, checking whether you're still awake...
<br>
And so, this second head born out of the center of the sheet, incongruous, its very existence a chaotic nonsense is quite typical of that second part of my inventing process: the idea was there, but not spelled out. It was one solution out of a whole lot I had to consider but which I ended up rejecting, be it for lack of capability, love or simply because the phone rang and I got distracted...
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIJCI_LXwA1D3y1yFp9NcJHW-jBsixZpYNahkOvPgGgd4JhmuRh1eY0Km1WnGZXIy9DK-0WxBSyrlXNML_bPslAdIckRl729sJz7K6yomODco61OkA0AvsX4VJDtcmmxASmCspzdHh-xnM/s1600/20180218_152214.jpg" imageanchor="1" ><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIJCI_LXwA1D3y1yFp9NcJHW-jBsixZpYNahkOvPgGgd4JhmuRh1eY0Km1WnGZXIy9DK-0WxBSyrlXNML_bPslAdIckRl729sJz7K6yomODco61OkA0AvsX4VJDtcmmxASmCspzdHh-xnM/s1600/20180218_152214.jpg" width="500" data-original-width="1600" data-original-height="1600" /></a>
</div></br>
Back to the serie, apart from its vengeful side, the element which I am fondest of is the movement which the crumpling allow by way of lofty layers, this is much harder to achieve with more classic origami techniques.

And thus, when "<a href="https://instagram.com/paperain">Paperain</a>" (who was taking part in Vincent Floderer's workshops with more evident success than me, by far) suggested an iceskater, it just had to happen, the fit was too perfect.

My heartfelt thanks to all the people mentioned here, they all have already had a part in the creation of these models and I suspect in other future ones...
<br><br>
You will find more images of these models (and others I've worked on lately) on <a href="https://www.instagram.com/gachepapier/"> my Instagram page</a>.

This might be one of the last updates of this blog. Not that I no longer fold, quite the contrary actually, but the Blogger interface is getting more and more antiquated. If you care to follow me, you can do so <a href="https://www.facebook.com/gachepapier">on Facebook</a> or <b>via <a href="https://www.instagram.com/gachepapier/">Instagram</a> </b>, which both have become much less cumbersome to use. While we're at it, you can also access my most recent picture <a href="https://photos.google.com/album/AF1QipNjpL9QdpXIYVsFH4UoX5G5wmOi5A66E8dnK3gi">gallery</a> hosted by Google.

<i style="color: #660000;">(rectangle de papier soie + MC de 60cm x 80cm) </i></br></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRcebMdJT-8IFReVSAiRoTEDsSDTQQbPoEaNO2XGFwoEAoTouS46QPaJ-0NJrEr5YeM-vN0SgJ_c0BQ14OyhdDFBR5nLofvOhR-G7SqZFZPlHOfhigzqiysoHlQx0CK2voXcd-4WGXo9hJ/w500-no/">
</div></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/i5QTqGC7QbsbOg8L-JnUAZoh7fHTiz4PAF8ybbNpY54T1DYfdgAkh2RQ0UgdYf6z01a_X2Y7_mgZhw=w500-no">
</div></br>
</div>
<div id="landingel_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(silk paper rectangle + MC - 60cm x 80cm) </i></br></br>
Two years ago in Lyon, Victor Coeurjoly's workshop coloured me impressed, as much for the technique which was shown as for the maturity this artist already displays. </br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRcebMdJT-8IFReVSAiRoTEDsSDTQQbPoEaNO2XGFwoEAoTouS46QPaJ-0NJrEr5YeM-vN0SgJ_c0BQ14OyhdDFBR5nLofvOhR-G7SqZFZPlHOfhigzqiysoHlQx0CK2voXcd-4WGXo9hJ/w500-no/">
</div></br>
There aren't many crumpled monster models, and even fewer with partially open volumes such as this one. Even the figurative creations of Victor (which are anything but monstrous) are generally closed; the open models are usually vegetal or organic abstractions.</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/i5QTqGC7QbsbOg8L-JnUAZoh7fHTiz4PAF8ybbNpY54T1DYfdgAkh2RQ0UgdYf6z01a_X2Y7_mgZhw=w500-no">
</div></br>
I think I'll expand my bestiary with this technique in the near future, it offers both new constraints and possibilities for modelling. As an example, the eyes of this model here required thin points instead of the open volumes I'd first contemplated (much as for the nostrils) because the shadows didn't provide the necessary depth, the contrast with the rest of the head was simply too low.

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/jxNr-ix6EYIv5tqewoGAp-glVAenUuwP71lZAvvBHYBBQkp7FGQCzsABKLQNpO7jj8SyCeH0BE9yPQ=w400-no"/>
</div></br></br>
</div>
<div id="moonboy_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(lokta on aquarelle paper square + acrylic - 25cm) </i></br></br>
</br></br>
A friend holding <a href="http://gachepapier.blogspot.com/2016/05/lawrence.html">Lawrence</a>
in his hand remarked he has a moon shape. Here's my response :</br></br>

</div></br></br>
To break the axial symetry of such a mask is subtler exercise than may be apparent at first. Some features require to be almost identical on both sides, such as the lines defining cheeks, while others demand different solutions, such as the corners of the mouth.

</div>
<div id="ondin_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(Canson square + acrylic - 40cm) </i>

Sometimes, it's the sheet which dicates what's to become of a model - as for this mask :</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/PnpAdK2Ef3kvupEEE8XZmNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-gRcVFLFgBG0/V3d-vejyQhI/AAAAAAAAPY8/ZdrCvZ-3Oh44l8N4_MfQdLWLq0QWhPk9gCCo/s500/DSC_0622.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
It' a strange mixture of quasi-frustration and magic in the end, on the foundation of a lack of mastery, one idea leads to the next... That sheet went through an age of pain, in particular the chin, which had all sorts of decorative fishtail-like gimmicks, which were nice on their own, but were considerably weighing onto an already ambigious expression - so I just folded them away, for the better I think.

<i style="color: #660000;">(carré de Canson + acrylique de 27cm) </i></br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/UdZTvLTvIs9Cqs_GlYs-JNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eZfiqMRAS4E/V1Mw3JlAwkI/AAAAAAAAPY0/GKwtr_ZEtDElBK7vFf9fVeAaWbW7Lg_GgCCo/s500/DSC_0547.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/iR3CZOuS7Fq7FDj3IXEnFNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk0D117hTbRv8LWtxjhdG73vvpnNLThwLs_23IMxyXncucp0HNoM9ZuQfBv56NVCSjTr8ohUv2X7nj73uvbvNeSYgjvaNibA4tdgK75WCzBXzcA2Ofyl9wfdQIRYsFhFpFs_QQk81X-uEX/s500/DSC_0546.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
</div>
<div id="lee_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(Canson square + acrylic - 27cm) </i>
</br></br>
The process of folding masks is often described as being the modelling of a sheet with a few preparatory creases, but I prefer to visualise this process in terms of propagation of faults. Here, there are but two crimps which form the basis of the eyelids and a sink so as to shape the nose, the rest follows :</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/UdZTvLTvIs9Cqs_GlYs-JNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-eZfiqMRAS4E/V1Mw3JlAwkI/AAAAAAAAPY0/GKwtr_ZEtDElBK7vFf9fVeAaWbW7Lg_GgCCo/s500/DSC_0547.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
In mathematical terms, confining oneself to a given projection plane, the faults can be propagated virtually in all directions, but at the price of volumes which will generally not be realistic (see below). The key to a good origmami mask may then lie in the choices between the lines and volumes (knowing they dictate constraints for each other), though I am quite sure that the eye attaches more importance to the lines at first.
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/iR3CZOuS7Fq7FDj3IXEnFNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhk0D117hTbRv8LWtxjhdG73vvpnNLThwLs_23IMxyXncucp0HNoM9ZuQfBv56NVCSjTr8ohUv2X7nj73uvbvNeSYgjvaNibA4tdgK75WCzBXzcA2Ofyl9wfdQIRYsFhFpFs_QQk81X-uEX/s500/DSC_0546.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
Of course, one can define volumes which are arbitrary close to reality, but this then will likely make parasitic lines proliferate, which seems to go against one of the ideals of origami, often coined "elegance".

</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/CWaImSkUAGIKvx3b7Qn22tMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvOwWyfnLA0sHgX_IJzrUj23Fc7USzVw5MO9VrM6JRmXcVmnTyoDaTlY8IZxe7IoP2p9UagP7jHpZFKZsharq16MKFigYeXXoWYl-7_TGyE1C5gjcKU6WFqomWK1fBch-Iz2WHWKZHOdX1/s500/DSC_0517.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/hCL4rkF-yOmE6wMfOxT3RdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP-90yPCKuWtVGHCPaSA_eF9vW7ZiemgQYL7YhY__nRCwgOi5lJ-tByxIE7p5LucIoG1EBKvWVZvBL7NOKfeUS-pn9i_fR79bfmLaEQgpzVonDh3qb7_2wXTD-6uHcK-RM77JcLQdB-jge/s400/DSC_0535.JPG" height="400" width="399" /></a>
</div></br>
</div>
<div id="lostentwives_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(elephant hide rectangle + acrylic - 140cm x 70cm) </i>
</br></br>
I didn't have it in mind to fold an Ent so close to the last I did, but
<a href="http://gachepapier.blogspot.com/2011/03/treebeard.html">my first two</a> are a long way from home and another opportunity to take part in an exhibition has come up.
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/CWaImSkUAGIKvx3b7Qn22tMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjvOwWyfnLA0sHgX_IJzrUj23Fc7USzVw5MO9VrM6JRmXcVmnTyoDaTlY8IZxe7IoP2p9UagP7jHpZFKZsharq16MKFigYeXXoWYl-7_TGyE1C5gjcKU6WFqomWK1fBch-Iz2WHWKZHOdX1/s500/DSC_0517.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
So I started with the base of « Treebeard » and modified it so as to give it more freedom around the knees and elbows, and there I go.
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/hCL4rkF-yOmE6wMfOxT3RdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiP-90yPCKuWtVGHCPaSA_eF9vW7ZiemgQYL7YhY__nRCwgOi5lJ-tByxIE7p5LucIoG1EBKvWVZvBL7NOKfeUS-pn9i_fR79bfmLaEQgpzVonDh3qb7_2wXTD-6uHcK-RM77JcLQdB-jge/s400/DSC_0535.JPG" height="400" width="399" /></a>
</div></br>
The model might be a little harder to decipher on these pictures (I'm totally not a photographer), but the character is supposed to blend into a forest after all, Ents seem to me to be experts at camouflage.

</br></br>
Et voici une version masculine :
</br></br>

From a frog base you get four pretty good long points which grow into the members of any humanoid, as I did with my <a href="http://gachepapier.blogspot.com/2016/04/horus.html">Horus</a>. A simple central graft gives you some room to give the head extra details. But as such a basis can yield pretty much every position any human body can take, the actual difficulty resides in modelling it in a manner which fits the subject, I hope these are somehow feline.
</br></br>
And here's a masculine version :

Une chose qui me plait bien avec ce masque, c'est que sa forte courbure donne naissance à des points de vues qui altèrent son caractère, son côté un peu (doux ?) dingue est plus apparent de profil, par exemple.</br></br>

Yes, of Arabia. </br>
I haven't checked whether the film passes the test of time, but Peter O'Toole's perfomance (which I saw 20+ years ago) left me with a strong impression, that of a somewhat crazed, thin face with deep orbits. </br></br>

Perhaps my favourite aspect of this mask is that its strong curvature gives rise to different expressions, in accordance with various points of view - I find him a little more disquieting from the side, a good thing, as I worked most on his profile.

Caricatures are interesting in that they reveal our cognitive filters. There isn't anyone with a mouth with that shape and yet, there's litlle doubt that this is decoded as a smile. The key line -the minimum trait ?- seems to me the one which defines the corners of the upper lip. I've tortured a few sheets to test the hypothesis before folding this mask, and as long as these corners are there, it's a smile, the lower lip can be shaped in a wide range of shapes.

<i style="color: #660000;">(carrés de sandwich, lokta, Canson, Tamano + MC de 24-29cm) </i></br></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/QFOxk9Hk2kn-HEWdw3CCktMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi24e2f-vbOqagYgtkpxzfV6VP7Q4gZwtm5FWAAqhmVW805E1ml2aO_xK-u_0LJSrN2rpm-f-Lgu0uMWM-y3m2fV4Rpp5RGn8UdK_UMCCJW8OBJHSx0i84PgQE99mF_2LbT4Y3_Kfd1Tj1b/s500-Ic42/DSC_0396.JPG" /></a>
</div></br></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/YSCYKtCWI3KjZtOb2LDU_dMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uNZHqI_FuNY/VxOmMSh-xyI/AAAAAAAAPUY/SPSWl8gYf_gopiCyyxIV7McF6lxZ8j-IACCo/s500-Ic42/DSC_0398.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/p-ZNV0x3H4tx5C23hd4Ty9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkfjsc3eOc6Sj4KER01x2ktFbHW20rqoIpz75TJOQ5tNFdXLjOrC7JkVK71plUoQYrpZXIMK8mzFElWuZAQS4By3PWnC-MhmZy56eZVmLSHjxeDP1jdCA5SCi7yF78TJLC4mSKcMuOJZyX/s500-Ic42/DSC_0388.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/_y6aYRTNXjE3TmZQ0ZFA8NMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I9ssAbZvkGU/VxOmWPUeYqI/AAAAAAAAPUU/wEBl8tL5ddgeP8M6r5CcSzQuWFkqOlGpQCCo/s600-Ic42/DSC_0382.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
</div>
<div id="horus_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(squares of sandwich, lokta, Canson, Tamano + MC - 24-29cm) </i></br></br>
Birds are particularly popular as an origami subject, certainly because they're easily recognisable no matter how much they're abstracted. And yet, I'm not aware of any models of Horus. Here come mine :
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/QFOxk9Hk2kn-HEWdw3CCktMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi24e2f-vbOqagYgtkpxzfV6VP7Q4gZwtm5FWAAqhmVW805E1ml2aO_xK-u_0LJSrN2rpm-f-Lgu0uMWM-y3m2fV4Rpp5RGn8UdK_UMCCJW8OBJHSx0i84PgQE99mF_2LbT4Y3_Kfd1Tj1b/s500-Ic42/DSC_0396.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
The base is... you guessed it... a frog base, I'll spare you the CP.
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/YSCYKtCWI3KjZtOb2LDU_dMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uNZHqI_FuNY/VxOmMSh-xyI/AAAAAAAAPUY/SPSWl8gYf_gopiCyyxIV7McF6lxZ8j-IACCo/s500-Ic42/DSC_0398.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
I've been looking for the "right" attitude, but truth is, with its long points, the model allows a lot of variation. If you combine these with the standard codes of comics, this allows for a lot of different expressions, which is nice with such a simple model.
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/p-ZNV0x3H4tx5C23hd4Ty9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkfjsc3eOc6Sj4KER01x2ktFbHW20rqoIpz75TJOQ5tNFdXLjOrC7JkVK71plUoQYrpZXIMK8mzFElWuZAQS4By3PWnC-MhmZy56eZVmLSHjxeDP1jdCA5SCi7yF78TJLC4mSKcMuOJZyX/s500-Ic42/DSC_0388.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
This last one might well be my fvourite of the lot, though the thigh is a bit flat when looked at from this point of view.
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/_y6aYRTNXjE3TmZQ0ZFA8NMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-I9ssAbZvkGU/VxOmWPUeYqI/AAAAAAAAPUU/wEBl8tL5ddgeP8M6r5CcSzQuWFkqOlGpQCCo/s600-Ic42/DSC_0382.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
In the end I'll have tested five papers for this model and my favourite came to be the sandwich. The fact that this paper was the most satisfying for the modelling goes to show hoow much this model relies on it. The Tamano was quite pleasant to fold with as well.

</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/UtdgcJvIecSWxeMXpjrLdm66t4YAiOzs8QN44CgMhPI?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiT3QWK0BC2cYy_Bw2-tNtCom138_a_1NIdDEdXvxOC2WtZ_Gz7pWf6lo1REh1jy1GLEMckrX2FRKIeB-O3M8cPn0jpwAVR9dvcGTEI1jq1RxRxLr3m_LEjDmKxQ-ECF2nScZJ4c_W_NQp7/s400-Ic42/cpakk.jpg" height="385" width="400" /></a>

</div></br>
It's one of those models I did not want to fold, like those with huge tesselations (my <a href="http://gachepapier.blogspot.com/2011/08/les-ruines-de-castel-klappsmuhlenburg.html">Ruins of Castel Klappsmühlenberg</a> come to mind), but some little voice in my head told me how to do it. Yikes. I had no choice, you see ? </br></br>
It's not very hard at all to fold the instrument on its own, but integrating it in the middle of the sheet to make a large a larger model takes up a lot of paper. About one third of the shet in the present case, surface-wise. And it take a hell of a lot of patience to fold as you have as good as no access to the inside of the instrument as you give it its shape, pleats included. Below is a slightly simplified CP (more or less accurate) to give you an idea.

<i style="color: #660000;">(carré de lokta + MC de 25cm) </i></br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/KpEyJOl9-efPn8ikkEYsC9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Z6PhZzib6ls/Vu03Sytgd5I/AAAAAAAAPSA/kxwyVs8S-rcQ2DnVrK6pFq1S6F_itBbRwCCo/s400-Ic42/DSC_0208.JPG" height="358" width="400" /></a>
</div></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/4gY5D88ZMuxwl-hihQLlItMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYDyu8J7gybfU3RCO84VKeoNRQ-L8zKy4yIis3j_cnf3g7-Qj_pO_0SCWLC3hyphenhyphenI7-F3infkdZewajSZ2RPfwwAEbZVcPptZ61Hlj9x2kbT9H_ZZ0ORtBuRDK-oIFzYZVNazVVTFDQEk0ze/s400-Ic42/DSC_0216.JPG" height="299" width="400" /></a>
</div></br>
</div>
<div id="ane_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(lokta square + MC - 25cm) </i>
I still have it in mind to fold a donkey some day (they feel like family), so here's a first study for the head :</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/KpEyJOl9-efPn8ikkEYsC9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Z6PhZzib6ls/Vu03Sytgd5I/AAAAAAAAPSA/kxwyVs8S-rcQ2DnVrK6pFq1S6F_itBbRwCCo/s400-Ic42/DSC_0208.JPG" height="358" width="400" /></a>
</div></br>
In order to fold that, you need four large points, plus a little one in the center for volume. Which is what one calls a bird base, yay !
</br></br>
And since I like his profile too, I thought I'd try something like this :</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/4gY5D88ZMuxwl-hihQLlItMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYDyu8J7gybfU3RCO84VKeoNRQ-L8zKy4yIis3j_cnf3g7-Qj_pO_0SCWLC3hyphenhyphenI7-F3infkdZewajSZ2RPfwwAEbZVcPptZ61Hlj9x2kbT9H_ZZ0ORtBuRDK-oIFzYZVNazVVTFDQEk0ze/s400-Ic42/DSC_0216.JPG" height="299" width="400" /></a>
</div></br>

</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/NbzO_Z5PG-VORn1tvZkYHdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjT5mIxGbV7fj6b09qmnB0tkNPQA6ugzD-6-j57l3EEGCA3z7B5dYXqfOYKOC93xYXOgFSicv64PNiDdcZ0I8c8TqZc5LEFPt8LGb8pkz9hUqfPAGc3KU0JfRup0QG7pIaVXjE40D-WDuM/s500-Ic42/DSC_0188.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
</div>
<div id="haunt_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(lokta rectangle + MC - 100cm x 75cm) </i></br></br>
I've folded this model to be part of an exhibition, which I am vey happy about. </br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/NbzO_Z5PG-VORn1tvZkYHdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjT5mIxGbV7fj6b09qmnB0tkNPQA6ugzD-6-j57l3EEGCA3z7B5dYXqfOYKOC93xYXOgFSicv64PNiDdcZ0I8c8TqZc5LEFPt8LGb8pkz9hUqfPAGc3KU0JfRup0QG7pIaVXjE40D-WDuM/s500-Ic42/DSC_0188.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
I won't say much about this yet, as I don't know how much is actually public at the moment, but I have the highest expectations about this exhibition, however unlikely it is that I'll see it with my own eyes. I'll be sure to link to it when the time is right.
</br></br>
I used some chalk for the finishing in order to highlight the main lines, I think it works well enough. While the general theme is imposed, it really fits into my own favourites - admittedly, the choice of another variation of my little watchtower helped getting smoothly back to folding.

<i style="color: #660000;">(bande de papier sandwich de 400cm x 4 cm) </i></br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/SAMTzJfRtQL6ZxLAdmzzg9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhqQ6M78SMNhI1nUXyOvZuedE9rAeuTUVu6g_Vqk96bxJrgEB3Ms4pCejfHoPQ0wgpHoICBSQg6A1rFjKURsEwX7BTYUNYETane9qxhcoIytVHyu43k2Znj6Npt044cr7hlv8FVy1lDZlVx/s500/s5.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/dXXvBDyj1zkOAmV5zgVGJdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uz_oyHWNJV4/VWdnOe4HqNI/AAAAAAAAPLI/HT3qAXrZCjA/s240/s2.JPG" /></a>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/2VgK-ja6EycCKdD1Kpf5-9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KRo54G89DF4/VWdoKZkOrTI/AAAAAAAAPLY/BZ5-mbXi_EQ/s240/s6.JPG" /></a>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/U4lAx5A-wyYExnjQ2qhXiNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVpFA6yKZcMCQmPeCiU9S1NFOWe83bwooKjSiSENIbdc7RegZhS9mNg56PtG06GwRVixOxOqsGsNAo9Clef-U3ll4oTVk4km-N7oEyY8OG6h2Ftnq7gFwTJOjlt_NaNVr_K4yBhdwkNQrx/s240/s8.JPG" /></a>
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/TjHWZlHSu60kOmjeUbN0K9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-NdLn3yRYkXA/VWdpQllP2lI/AAAAAAAAPLw/S8GAfQICrh4/s240/s9.JPG" /></a></div></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/FfTTDfVteFBhL9DX8a3Mx266t4YAiOzs8QN44CgMhPI?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-GNjsn740tiM/VXnDALYJ0HI/AAAAAAAAPMc/uFJCKRBX47Q/s500/DSC_0776.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
</div>
<div id="CHANGEME_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(sandwich paper strip - 400cm x 4cm) </i>
The more I think about it, the more I find that origami is missing the fundamental subject of buttocks, even if there are now and then good feminine models...</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div></br>
The freedom gained through the use of paper strips allows some interesting variations. I have my preferences, but I cannot pinpoint a "correct" solution among these :
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/dXXvBDyj1zkOAmV5zgVGJdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-uz_oyHWNJV4/VWdnOe4HqNI/AAAAAAAAPLI/HT3qAXrZCjA/s240/s2.JPG" /></a>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/2VgK-ja6EycCKdD1Kpf5-9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-KRo54G89DF4/VWdoKZkOrTI/AAAAAAAAPLY/BZ5-mbXi_EQ/s240/s6.JPG" /></a>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/U4lAx5A-wyYExnjQ2qhXiNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVpFA6yKZcMCQmPeCiU9S1NFOWe83bwooKjSiSENIbdc7RegZhS9mNg56PtG06GwRVixOxOqsGsNAo9Clef-U3ll4oTVk4km-N7oEyY8OG6h2Ftnq7gFwTJOjlt_NaNVr_K4yBhdwkNQrx/s240/s8.JPG" /></a>

</br></br>
Thereason why the paper strip had to be his long is that I couldn't resist the temptation to use it to frame the main character as well, which really doubles the required length, but this is really only a gimmick. I had to give up the long strands of hair I'd foreseen as these were too distracting, but I might give it another shot...
</br></br>
<b>EDIT 11.06.2015:</b> Here's how I prefer her, on my wall :
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<i style="color: #660000;">(carré de papier aquarelle de 27cm) </i></br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-WF1dlBHVooUYm2XTXJigdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ghLaK-oWmLg/VVRxju9WR-I/AAAAAAAAPKE/C_F_aQhW5sU/s500/DSC_0016.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
</div>
<div id="abruti_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(drawing paper square - 27cm) </i>
Nope, not a Western Base mask this time. To give this brute his stupidly satisfied smile, it was much easier to change the basic structure of the faults in the structure of the sheet which give it its volume :</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/-WF1dlBHVooUYm2XTXJigdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-ghLaK-oWmLg/VVRxju9WR-I/AAAAAAAAPKE/C_F_aQhW5sU/s500/DSC_0016.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
Even though that structure is not very important if your ambition is to fold "a mask, any mask", the constraints which the starting structure may have on the modelling can become overwhelming if you have a precise image of what you seek to represent.

Even though the characters of this series are more or less related, I don't think I'm quite through with this base; tiny details, such as the tiny crimp at the edge of the eyes, have a strong impact on the mood, age and personality of the subject :</br></br>

<i style="color: #660000;">(carré de papier aquarelle de 27cm) </i></br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/iBqUY-S3FJyXK6v-8o_po9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PWF2IlaotIQ/VVRxLNHSNeI/AAAAAAAAPKM/iAUQO8rHSew/s400/DSC_0014.JPG" height="390" width="400" /></a>
</div></br>
</div>
<div id="wb7_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(drawing paper - 27cm) </i>
After having taught the base for this series of masks at the Barcelona convention the last mask I had left found a new home (and the others are all in Zaragoza at the moment), the house felt empty enough for me to need to fold another, probably the nastiest of the lot to date :</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/iBqUY-S3FJyXK6v-8o_po9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-PWF2IlaotIQ/VVRxLNHSNeI/AAAAAAAAPKM/iAUQO8rHSew/s400/DSC_0014.JPG" height="390" width="400" /></a>
</div></br>
I've decided to experiment with a sort of resin which becomes really hard after a few days, I'd tested that to give some models a second youth to send them to Zaragoza, I'm confident this mask will keep its shape for a long time.

<i style="color: #660000;">(carré de lokta + MC de 30cm) </i></br></br>
</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/O5hygkhLgYW5fA5zkTIm09MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinCjngzb5ztTUVAeVWRm5A1HIxqMgQFa1CpSc9-Hit63yjYNKXP3ND35UyQRhIXEvFB8hz9Lh01RjG1oqle6unKA1rV1rYpo6-cM0_1TPHPeYqJky-q_ImrskvToQ0iU-6Q-g6VR3IfqQt/s444/DSC_0741.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
</br></br>
EDIT 14.05.2015 : une petite prise de vue latérale pour sebl :</br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/07inn7GTIE1_DiLXiwFbN9MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh-Yq7WOdlltAvztKftXCKHdkpWujgBgh0HT1zoIt0cgkqvRtzQqvcrZN9aZ2DGBbLi5pe1yHYTQhoD7j4XvC5tBe9oMineXRLQzLiT4dI95XFuJ70zLk4-2QIBNjhQx64zC-PHfepMf76v/s288/DSC_0024.JPG" height="233" width="288" /></a>
</div></br></br>
</div>
<div id="tamouth_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(lokta square + MC - 30cm) </i>
It hadn't been as easy in a long time, but my first doodle on the flight back from the AEP convention turned into a model, even though it's yet another bird base... </br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/O5hygkhLgYW5fA5zkTIm09MTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinCjngzb5ztTUVAeVWRm5A1HIxqMgQFa1CpSc9-Hit63yjYNKXP3ND35UyQRhIXEvFB8hz9Lh01RjG1oqle6unKA1rV1rYpo6-cM0_1TPHPeYqJky-q_ImrskvToQ0iU-6Q-g6VR3IfqQt/s444/DSC_0741.JPG" /></a>
</div></br>
It's probably the kind of model that would have some success if I could teach it during a convention, but as it stands for the moment, the folding sequence is stupidly rough and the locking mechanism which gives it volume and stability is simply not good enough... but who knows ?
</br></br>

The loonies of the "Origami Always Succeed" (sic) had warned me, the atmosphere of the AEP conventions is delirious. Being there as a special guest
was a fabulous experience, you run all over the place, sleep 3-4 hours a night, fold all the time, the organisers take even better care of you than
of everyone else (no mean feat !), you get to fold and talk with exceptional folders (no lists here, you know who you are) and folding ideas are five a dime... of course, when you have to leave all of this behind, you're ripe for the Post-Con Blues, but it's been a while since I've been craving for folding this much, my most heartfelt thanks to the AEP and all the people with whom I spent such a great time !
</br></br>

One of the other invited guests was no other than Daniela Carboni and I got my own little private folding workshop to learn how to fold her Lorelei (yeah !) - a model I really love, don't let this little hack above tell you anything else.
</br></br>
PS : But where can one find a picture of Daniela's model ?

<i style="color: #660000;">(carré de lokta + MC de 50cm) </i></br></br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/0gkNYimkVbzCzAhCNVhbzNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiR0CNS6Be4-13K40P397N4tPGjzRzTA8eTaSY5Uz-bdC-Y31ZAn3mboT5b0fHQfJUEliw90pJZvW7mWfQU2FRCm5thRjW2g6AFi88Eo4nYBoBhKUM5OXrQW5Wz4bB8EsRdNFr73C8VQ3Q/s400/DSC_0722.JPG" height="285" width="400" /></a>
</div></br></br>
Yes !</br></br>
</div>
<div id="cocker_en" lang="en">
<i style="color: #660000;">(lokta square + MC - 50cm) </i>
Cocker Spaniels are horrible beasts, I keep a small scar as proof and reminder, but their long ears and sad eyes are a still enough to garantee they keep my prudent friendship, they're simply too beautiful. Ever since I've started conceiveing my own models, I've had Eric Joisel's Spaniel in mind and have experienced folding envy. I'm thus quite happy to have finished this first shot at one :
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/0gkNYimkVbzCzAhCNVhbzNMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=embedwebsite"><img src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiiR0CNS6Be4-13K40P397N4tPGjzRzTA8eTaSY5Uz-bdC-Y31ZAn3mboT5b0fHQfJUEliw90pJZvW7mWfQU2FRCm5thRjW2g6AFi88Eo4nYBoBhKUM5OXrQW5Wz4bB8EsRdNFr73C8VQ3Q/s400/DSC_0722.JPG" height="285" width="400" /></a>
</div></br></br>
It's quite perfectible; the head is mostly like I wanted it to be, but the body isn't quite there yet... as an excuse, the preparation for the Barcelona con' has been ating up most of my folding time these last few weeks. Take off ? Tomorrow !
