Lapin Magique

I am almost not late for the submission of my contribution to the March edition of the french forum design challenge, the subject being astrology. As it's a science of quacks, I decided to illustrate the theme with a magician's hat, from which a crazy rabbit is popping its head out; the rabbit is of course one of the signs of the chinese Zodiac (hence the cap):

I'd meant to combine this with the english forum's challenge ("action origami" in March), but being late, I left it be and simply closed the hat completely (the french challenge is less of a competition and foresees an extra week for the slow). Otherwise it would have been open in the back and the head would have popped in and out - at least that was the idea.

In "graphical" terms, I fee a whole lot more comfortable in the universe of cartoons and comics :).

A short explanation:
The cheeks, nose and eye orbits were shaped as tesselations before I started pulling the points out for the formation of the ears etc...:

The hat is a simple upwards fold, so as to show the black side of the paper. Prior to that, everything was folded like an accordeon along the vertical direction. After sahping the rim, all that is left to do is to stretch the pleats laterally - voilà !
